Meet Cato Vanhoutte!

Cato started working at BrightAnalytics as a Business Analyst in September 2022. We asked her a few questions about her daily tasks, why she chose the Bright Team, and what she thinks of the company.

What did you study?

I studied Business Economics at Ghent University. That appealed to me because it is quite broad, leaving you with plenty of options after graduation. For me, IT and Finance courses were always very interesting, so I knew I wanted to do something with these subjects in my future job. However, I kept my options open to see what opportunities would come my way.

What is your role at BrightAnalytics?

I am a Business Analyst, specializing in Advanced Finance. In this role, I can combine my passion for Finance with my interest in IT, which is perfect. For the Finance part, I deal with bookings and accounting, and I combine that with the IT side, such as working with queries.

Did you receive training and coaching when you started here?

Yes, absolutely, and that is a major advantage! It reassured me that I didn't have to figure everything out on my own. For example, I had never written queries before I started here. I received training and coaching for it, and now I can do this independently, which gives me a real sense of fulfillment.

I learn new things every day, and whenever I have a question, the team is always ready to help! The training might seem a bit overwhelming at first, but once you get to work and apply the theory daily, you quickly get the hang of it and grow step by step.

What does a day at the Bright office look like for you?

I usually focus on two main tasks: on the one hand, I provide support to our clients, and on the other hand, I customize certain platform functionalities.

• Client Support: This consists of helping clients as best as possible whenever an issue arises. For example, if certain data doesn't come through in the platform, we look at the underlying query, identify the problem, and try to solve it as smoothly as possible.

• Customization: Clients sometimes ask for adjustments to their platform or view, which we then take on. If a specific request pops up frequently, we try to standardize the process. This saves us time and helps future clients with the same question much faster.

What appealed to you about this company?

The fact that it's such a young team is something I find truly unique. There is a great atmosphere, and you immediately feel part of the Bright Family! Your ideas are always listened to, and your input is highly valued here.

Furthermore, BrightAnalytics has inspiring ambitions and wants to keep growing, which means you also get the opportunity to grow, develop yourself, and refine your skills. On top of that, a lot of attention is paid to team spirit, with after-work events and teambuildings. It’s just really fun to come to work every day.

What tips would you give to someone who is also interested in becoming a Business Analyst?

Energy, dynamism, and the willingness to learn and grow together with the team are definitely key factors. The job is challenging, but that’s exactly what makes it fun. No two problems are the same, so you always have to look for a new solution. Sometimes that takes a bit of time, but in the end, you always succeed if you don't give up.
